BELOIT – There’s a lot to be learned in a locker room.

Students at Hendricks CareerTek Advanced Construction Academy renovated locker rooms at the Krueger-Haskell Clubhouse. The city paid for fixtures and paint and the student contributed the labor in exchange for learning opportunities.

Students in CareerTek’s Advanced Construction Academy learned about everything from toilet installation to how to lay flooring during the week-long renovation of the men’s and women’s locker rooms at the Krueger-Haskell Golf Course Clubhouse. The city purchased the fixtures and the students provided the labor in return for the learning experience.

Business and Education Director Tina Salzman said students started working on Monday. They put in a wall, new flooring and benches in the men’s locker room. In the women’s side they did similar work in addition to tearing down a cinder block wall. Part of the project included cleaning the toilets and attaching new fixtures to them. Students also got to watch plumbing and electrical being installed by the professionals along the way.
