RSVP Vets Helping Vets Transportation Program
Of the approximately 2,500 veterans living in the Beloit area, 76% are 55 years of age or older. Transportation and a lack of social ties are two barriers that significantly impact the ability of individuals in this age group to maintain their independence.
The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program developed the Vets Helping Vets Transportation Program, a free transportation service for veterans 55 and older who need assistance to attend medical appointments and other activities that allow them to maintain independence.
In a unique twist, the program utilizes volunteer senior veteran drivers, creating meaningful opportunities for volunteer activity, increased connection to the community and veteran-to-veteran support.
