Can I apply for a grant for myself or another individual?
No. The tax-exempt determination for the Foundation does not allow us to provide support to individuals. In order to be considered, an application must be submitted by a qualified not-for-profit tax-exempt organization.
Will the Foundation consider an application for an event sponsorship?
We generally do not use Foundation resources to sponsor events.
Can I apply for a grant to start my own business?
No. There are other sources of support in Beloit and Rock County for those interested in starting their own business. In order to be considered for a Foundation grant, an application must be submitted by a qualified not-for-profit tax-exempt organization.
Does the Foundation consider applications for endowment projects?
No. While the Foundation respects the value of endowment gifts, making certain our investments align with the values of our Founders is of utmost importance and very difficult to ensure over time as the work and priorities of organizations change.
Will the Foundation consider an application for a project related to lobbying or an election?
No.
Does the Foundation have any geographic limitations?
Yes. Foundation investments will be made primarily in the community of Beloit, Wisconsin.
The Foundation may consider applications for projects in other Stateline Area communities (generally defined as South Beloit, Roscoe and Rockton, Illinois). The Foundation rarely considers applications for Stateline area projects that do not include significant measurable activity and impact in Beloit.
Can I apply for a Rock County project that includes activity in Beloit?
In limited circumstances, the Foundation will consider applications for a Rock County project that includes activity in Beloit. Organizations should be prepared to speak specifically to: existing, meaningful Beloit partnerships and collaborations; current measurable program activity in Beloit; and anticipated measurable impact in the community of Beloit. A preliminary discussion of the potential project with Foundation staff prior to application is encouraged.
Will the Foundation consider an application from a regional, state or national organization?
No. While we appreciate the work and broad impacts of regional, state and nationally-focused organizations, and we understand these efforts can strengthen local efforts, the Foundation is specifically focused on impact within our home community of Beloit.
Will the Foundation consider a Beloit replication of a project that has been successful in another community?
We are committed to supporting projects that will impact the Beloit community in a positive, meaningful and sustainable manner. To meaningfully impact our community is to be an invested part of our community. If you are not physically located in the community, you will be asked about your existing, meaningful, Beloit partnerships and collaboration activities. If you are not currently engaged in this way, we recommend you undertake this work prior to approaching the Foundation about a potential application.
Is there a limit on the amount of funding an organization can request?
The Foundation does not have established funding limits, however we generally will not consider requests over $100,000 without a preliminary discussion of the potential project with Foundation staff prior to application. Please review the Foundation’s Grant Recipient Archive for more information regarding historical grant amounts.
Are there any other limitations on grant applications?
Requests that duplicate projects or services the Foundation currently funds are discouraged. See Grant Recipient Archive for more information.
